Phalaenopsis

The Phalaenopsis is popularly referred to as the "moth orchid" due to the appearance of it's blooms.  This is much favored as a windowsill plant and huge quantities of blooming plants are produced for sale in retail outlets.  In addition to frequent intra-generic hybridization, many crosses are made with the genus Dorita producing the intergeneric hybrid Doritaenopsis.  By properly trimming the bloom spike, plants can be kept in bloom continuously for years.
