I've grouped the two genera Odontoglossum and Oncidium together.  Both are natives of the tropical regions of the Americas.  They are frequently interbred with each other and with other genera.  The hybrids produced are favorites of many amateur orchid growers in the U.S. both because of their availability and their ease of growing.

Grows from Mexico to Nicaragua at intermediate elevations in moist cloud forests.  Formerly classified as Odontoglossum.  This species and 13 other were placed in a separate genus. odbs.jpg (41065 bytes) Odontocidium Bittersweet. An hybrid of  Oncidium and Odon- toglossum.
